Integrated Marketing Strategies and the AMA Guidelines
When
it comes to integrated marketing communications, it is the best strategy to use
to make sure that your brand’s messaging is consistent across all channels and
creates a unified brand experience for customers. As a new person to the
industry, it is important to keep in mind that when dealing with people who may
seek your brand out based on the products and services you provide, your consumers
come from different walks of life. They have different backgrounds and unique experiences
that need to be considered when interacting with them. We live in a world where
offense can be taken easily, and harm can be caused unintentionally to those
who may come across your advertisements and messaging. So, it is important to
take precautions that will help you to avoid committing these offenses at all
costs. One of the best ways to do this is by becoming familiar with the standards
that have been set by the American Marketing Association and adhere to the
guidelines that have been set by the organization in order to minimize harm
caused to the consumer.
The American Marketing Association, or the AMA, has outlined some ethical practices to be included in your brand’s marketing campaign. The AMA promotes fairness, inclusion, transparency, and honors diversity. With that said, the first best practice that I can advise is for you to make sure that your advertisement material is free of stereotypes and bias. This includes messages that could be seen as racist, prejudiced, or non-inclusive. The next best practice is to be equitable. When creating your marketing strategies, be sure to build in aspects that support diversity, and inclusiveness, and embrace individual, cultural, and ethical differences. The last piece of advice I have for you is to develop material that demonstrates transparency. You can do this by communicating clearly and accepting feedback from your stakeholders. These are just some considerations to keep in mind when developing an integrated marketing campaign.
If
you take this advice, you will be actively upholding the ethical standards of
the AMA. Choosing not to honor these standards can give your brand a bad
reputation at the very least. Not honoring these guidelines can also result in
consequences for your brand with the appropriate authorities. But all of this
can be avoided by simply making sure to create marketing material that adheres
to the guidelines, ensuring support for diversity, transparency, and fairness.
